Red Light Therapy

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red Light Therapy, also called photobiomodulation, is a safe, non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate healing and rejuvenation at the cellular level. Unlike UV light, which can damage the skin, red and near-infrared light provide restorative energy that supports the body’s natural repair systems.

At its core, Red Light Therapy works by targeting the mitochondria, the “powerhouse” of your cells. When exposed to these wavelengths, the mitochondria produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate) — the energy your cells need to function. With more energy, your cells repair, regenerate, and perform at their best.
This process promotes:

-
Increased collagen and elastin production
-
Improved circulation and nutrient delivery
-
Reduced inflammation in muscles, joints, and tissues
-
Faster healing and recovery

The Light Spectrum & How It Works
Light penetrates the skin at different depths, each wavelength providing unique benefits:

-
Red Light (visible red, 630-660nm) Reaches into the surface layers of the skin and cells, stimulating the mitochondria (the “powerhouse” of the cell) to create more energy. This natural boost encourages collagen production, reduces fine lines, improves circulation, and lowers inflammation. Together, these effects support faster healing, healthier skin, and overall vitality.

-
Near Infrared Light (NIR, 810-850nm) penetrates even deeper into muscles, joints, and tissues. It helps reduce inflammation, speed recovery, and support long-term joint and nerve health.

-
Blue Light (around 480nm) targets the surface of the skin, helping with acne, skin clarity, and chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Together, these wavelengths create a full-body ripple effect that supports healing, repair, and overall wellness from the skin down to deeper tissues.

Red Light Therapy
Session Duration & Frequency
-
10-20 minutes per session is recommended.
-
We recommend using Red Light Therapy at least 1 time a week, and 3 to 5 times a week for optimal results.
-
Distance of 8”-14” for deep tissue and 16”-24” for superficial skin therapy
-
We recommend you start slower/farther at first and work your way up to closer distance/longer exposure once your tolerance to light has been found.
-
When incorporating Infrared Sauna Therapy into your routine, it's advisable to begin with Red Light Therapy on dry skin. This sequence is recommended as it allows for the optimal absorption and effectiveness of both therapies
Helpful Tips for Your Session

To get the most out of your Red Light Therapy session:
-
Arrive with clean, bare skin — free of makeup, oils, lotions, or sunscreen.
-
Wear minimal clothing or expose as much skin as you’re comfortable with for maximum coverage.
-
Stay hydrated before and after your session to support cellular repair.
-
Consistency is key — benefits build over time with regular sessions.
Things to Keep in Mind
-
It is common to feel warmth during and after your treatment. Over time, and with consistent treatment, you can expect to feel more muscle relaxation, reduced stiffness, and inflammation, and pain relief. If any type of discomfort or excessive sensitivity is felt, please decrease your exposure time, or increase the distance to the light.
-
Eye protection is not necessary, but we recommend wearing the supplied goggles or bring your own sunglasses. If you do not wear eye protection, we recommend you do not look directly into the LEDs as it may cause mild irritation for some people.
-
Red Light Therapy is not a “quick fix.” Like exercise or healthy eating, results are cumulative and improve with routine use.
-
Always consult your healthcare provider if you have concerns about underlying conditions, photosensitivity, or medication interactions.
-
We encourage all guests to review our Safety & Liability Guidelines prior to their session.
